this exactly, because Chandra was a secondary character it made her choices poorly conceived and justified. Are these choices inherently unrealistic, not necessarily, but because they were given to the prominent female character, who was secondary to the male characters it feels rushed and justified.
that isn't exactly true, the US did have jewish athletes as part of its delegation, notably two members of the track relay team, but didn't use them despite the fact they qualified because of the embarrassing Hitler aspect. So they were there, but they didnt get to run
