I googled it, and apparently the surface area of Neptune is ~7.6 billion sq. km., so while the author’s math is (obviously) correct, it’s a bit of an inapt metaphor. I guess it’s the closest in terms of celestial bodies, but why not say “half the surface area of neptune”.
