Well that's the problem. Those seem like sub-categories in the medium rather than names for the medium itself. Maybe "video games" is not the perfect name for the medium, maybe it will become that, either way there's still value in a term that encompasses the whole medium.

Read what I replied to NotEd. Though thinking about it a little more, maybe "video game" is not the most apt name. But I think there's still value in having a term that encompasses the whole medium, and dividing it off like that would not do it any favors either.

I could get behind "interactive entertainment", but I don't think that term is snappy enough to catch on. And I also don't think spliting it up into two groups like that would catch on either.

What's Tetris, Geometry Wars, Picross 3D or any other video games that don't offer any kind of fiction then?

My favorite mimics have always been the Dragon Quest ones. They look so happy when they're going to kill you :)
