To add to what everyone is saying; it really depends on the composer, and how he/she uses the voices. In general I don't really like vocaloid music, but I can listen to some "Last Note."(that's the composer).

HAWX is just awful (especially the 2nd one) and Assault Horizon is pretty bad...

To add to what dummysystem said, Persona 4 just plays better than 2(either one). Also I have played played all the personas, and while you are right in that Persona 2 is darker than 3 or 4 that doesn't make them better.
