To add to what dummysystem said, Persona 4 just plays better than 2(either one). Also I have played played all the personas, and while you are right in that Persona 2 is darker than 3 or 4 that doesn't make them better.

No, that credit is in Bake as well; it's for Original Character Designer. Akio is designer and Chief Animator Director for both. The difference you're noticing is mainly budget. If you check the credits Nise, had a bunch more animators than Bake.

You're half right. The anime designs are done by Akio Watanabe. They are based on the original illustrations on the novels that were done by VOFAN.
I think it's sad that the disclaimer was probably necessary... :(
