I would counter that ISO 8601 specifies [YYYY]-[MM]-[DD] format. This format shows the date from most significant digit to least, and sorts automatically with existing algorithms.

Simple. Turn to your partner one day and ask if they want to go down to the county clerks office and get married on Monday (or whichever day works). Make a day of it.
