There was always violence at the Carifete in Montreal, Canada, so they stopped financing it, started again, there was violence again and I haven’t heard of there being one in a while. When there were enough cops at the parade there were stabbings in the parcs where it ended instead.

Would plain-clothes officers be an option?

Or you can ban parades altogether and solve the problem entirely.

Maybe term limits would allow politicians to do what they are supposed to do instead of worrying about their next election.

People who know they'll get away with it.

I really can’t understand it at all. Isn’t it supposed to be FUN? Last I heard being shot and stabbed isn’t FUN! What is WRONG with people?

Duh! I don’t know why the people at this site can’t figure this out: That’s EXACTLY what’s going to happen.

Jorblox - You’re an idiot. But it’s okay! You have company, and everyone loves a party!

So my fam’s from the Caribbean (and not in that I’m Caribean but I’ve never been and my parents have never been and my grandparents came over when they were 10 and never went back way. I’ve been back almost every year and started

I have no familiarity with this particular parade, but if violence is so closely connected with it, and with today’s events, I have to imagine next year’s parade will be policed much more thoroughly (politics demands a response if when the Deputy Counsel to the Governor gets shot (I hope Deputy Counsel Gabay and the

It’s almost like we have to hold the perpetrators responsible for the actions they commit and try to find a way to remove that attitude of violence from the community.

It isn’t all you can do. Shut it down if there is a history of violence. It’s pretty damned easy.

Gangs. Always happens in Toronto during Caribana too, which sucks because Caribana is awesome fun and a great thing for the city. This year gangs had a shootout after Drake’s after party, one of those killed was a targeted gang member but an innocent woman was also caught in the crossfire and died.

Someone always gets shot or stabbed at this particular parade. It’s like a subset of revelers believe it’s not a festival until someone gets hurt.

Yeah, that’s all fair. I just wish there was a positive solution....I mean, I would truly love to see the parade! It’s such a shame it’s always overshadowed by the extreme violence. Innocents are killed every year.

I was walking to my bodega to get cat food at 4pm when a guy who was drinking a beer and speeding in reverse on my one-way street nearly hopped the curb and hit me. Scared me to death. This parade attracts some lousy people

He wasn’t targeted, he was killed by a stray bullet out of the THIRTY bullets someone unleashed on the crowd. That’s why this headline kills me—they’re pretending the costumes are the headline when several people have already been shot and I’ve been hearing sirens and fighting outside my window all freakin’ day.

I notice how the original article about the shooting has been removed. This parade has been plagued by violence and death every. single. year. Gun violence is an issue, but this event in particular attracts criminal elements and, as someone who lives in the neighborhood, most people I know choose to stay indoors

Let’s celebrate the beautiful culture that’s about to have village elders rape a 15yo and her older sister because her brother married for love! Or did we forget?

This is why I never attended that parade.

OK I was not expecting that from the headline. “Hey look at these cool costumes, oh yeah some people got stabbed and stuff but whatever.”
