I don’t think that anyone is trying to make the case for bringing in Indian-market cars, but to okay Euro, Japanese, Australian, and Canadian market vehicles would be easy and would save everyone brazillions of dollars.

Yep - the laws restricting us to what importers want to give us were after all authored by MBNA and BMWNA and so on, so that they wouldn’t have to compete with their own products.

I rented one of these two years ago, and it was indeed brilliant. Also, it carried two adults, two toddlers, and their not inconsiderable luggage load, although we were forced to keep souvenir purchases to a minimum.

“This would unfortunately have the unintended consequence of prioritizing citations to the wealthy. If a shiny new S-Class fails to signal and an ‘87 Cutlass Supreme runs a red light, the S-Class would likely prove the more lucrative stop.”

As a Swede, I feel like commenting on this: we wish other countries would stop undercutting us, thus taking away our right to create a functioning nation. It’s sort of like dumping, or like the corporate inversions to Ireland and Luxemburg. As for progressive fines, it works very very well. I used to always buy cars through the newspaper classifieds - honestly it worked as well as the internet. Found a Peugeot 505 Turbo that way in 1998, one owner since new and all service records.

I’ve only ever bought one new car, but I chose the middle road - the dealer found a car to my specs two states away, and I got it in two weeks. Reselling the car (a manual Protege5) was easy as pie, so stocking manuals should have been fairly obvious to any dealer with an ounce of brains.

That’s from the German Auto Katalog, I think the 1979 issue. Lemme see if there’s anything more - I was always intrigued by this car when I was a kid. DMG later went out of business due to political disfavor, which is quite sad. Some later Toros use Brasilia taillights (they were also assembled by DMG).

The doors look a lot like Toyota LiteAce issues, although there are some major differences, too:

The Jarama is a truly sucky supercar design. Like a fish that swallowed a brick and then got sat on.
