I don’t mean to use the word as a way to deify individuals, and I adore Oprah, but we are just as quickly to use the word “hero” to describe a celebrity who makes us laugh, who appears to have their shit together, or who gives a single motivational speech. How would use the word hero?

I’ve never understood why our society takes some of the most tragic events in a person’s life, public figure or not, and turns into an entertainment piece. I will never ever understand this.
