Had contest this when I was a kid... we were give a grocery bag full of building materials - popsicle sticks, straws, rubber bands, etc... to situate the egg inside a small cardboard box. My dad (an engineer) had me take the grocery bags themselves and half-crumple them into the box and put the egg in the middle...

This is one of my greatest fears when traveling and while I am semi-paranoid about avoiding this situation, I believe it might happen to me eventually (what can I say, I’m a pessimist). I think it is simply human to slowly grow complacent

Because he would immediately become a target ... in particular from hackers and organized crime (aka drug cartels and mafia) because “Satoshi Nakamoto” owns 7.5% of all bitcoins... if converted at the post-crash exchange rate to US dollars it be around $383M. Would you broadcast that fact if you didn’t have enough

You are right, I just looked at a photo of him standing next to Clinton and Gore on wikipedia. Also I think because he is older (so he shoulders are higher towards his ears) and heavy (more of a double chin) it looks even more exaggerated now.

WTH, was his head always that big?

I live off a Rengastroff and I would have mildly preferred Google gained access. Their daycare centers are open to the public on the weekends to use. I take public buses around downtown Mountain View which are completely funded by Google. True, their citywide wifi is kind of flaky (although my friend was able to get

While “It just works” is a great concept for end-users. doesn’t work as a mantra for the engineers who are actually building the machines - because what happens if it stops working somewhere halfway to Jupiter. If you don’t know how it works, you can’t fix it. Think Apollo 13.

How nice of the author to not promote all the posts pointing out his shoddy article research. #passiveaggressive

Louis Comfort Tiffany didn’t actually design the daffodil/floral patterns that made “Tiffany lamps” famous. That was actually by his a designer named Clara Driscoll that he employed, but he took the credit for it instead.

That's the thing there is no existing organization to bring in... Just a scattering of researchers and engineers across the world who have different ideas on how to solve it... Many of which dont work in practice since this is like the second (?) major radiation leak of a nuclear power plant in the history of the

To be fair... basically no one in the world is a veteran of cleaning up nuclear fallout (they are still working on Chernobyl to this day to try and contain it the reactor with a new cover).

Now playing

you'd be better off trying to amend this "distortion" on your PC/Mac with more powerful software that you can control.

The thought experiment you just mentioned is covered by the Special Relativity, which is taught to college freshman, and some advanced high school courses. The important part of that is that the speed of light cannot be exceeded in a particular frame of reference (i.e. point of view).

It's a bit of a oversimplification/exaggeration to say the entire internet is run on anonymity. Certainly there are large areas of that thrive on anonymity... but lots of things are not. You are not anonymous on Facebook (else how would you connect you IRL friends). You are not anonymous when doing online

I don't think you can say that the only way the laptop evidence was obtained was because of the evidence from Icelandic servers.

Ah... Makes more sense ;)

But if you simply don't use it... it doesn't affect you aside from the fact that there is a little more bulk and maybe some weight. I'm honestly interested in what about a camera having a viewfinder makes it a dealbreaker for you?

You don't want a viewfinder? Adds too much bulk?

To me (I wasn't taking notes), it was always like 2-3 people stocking shelves doing inventory and one manager... and you would still have to have at least one person standing around the registers to at least look to see if someone was finished shopping and ready to make a purchase.

How do you reverse a transaction in bitcoin without using an escrow intermediary? For instance I read that Mt.Gox accidentally sent 2,609 BTC to an invalid address in Oct 2011 and they are no forever lost. Are you saying that this transaction can be reversed?
