I’m not arguing that the process wasn’t legitimate. My point, I guess, is that if you’re going to label this nickname ok but THIS nickname racially insensitive and harmful, then it should be on better grounds then the university with the ok nickname can afford to buy people but the racist university can’t.

No the chief of the standing rock tribe was unwilling to allow the matter to even come to a vote. The “tribe” had no say in the matter as they were prevented from being able to decide. I wouldn’t call that playing fair. Especially when it comes to deciding if something is racist or not.

Since you seem to know so much about the situation you must also know that the reason UND got permission from one tribe and not the other is because the Standing Rock tribes chief refused to hold a vote on the matter for more than a decade because he feared that it would be approved by a large majority.
