Obviously subjectivity plays a role, but I think a lot of people (and especially genre fans) tend to conflate “entertaining” with “best.” A movie highly entertained them, therefore it must be the best!

The biggest problem that The Batman had was, well, obvious.

The wealthy Powers That Be are tired of not making enough money - and, as always, you are expendable. That is why there is a sudden arbitrary and ill-advised push for no masks and to just ‘get over’ the pandemic. They are normalizing mass death for profit.

Now playing

JJ was barely involved in Beyond’s production and his initial director was Orci, the self proclaimed 9-11 truther, who put his wild beliefs into 2 of JJ’s movies,

Crisis on Infinite Earths, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, Final Crisis—all of them managed to rejigger its continuity in some way.

Here’s hoping this is just the first of many more to come. Rank and file office workers are the unsung heart of the industry.

Read the interview.

It’s a great movie, just not the kind of movie that appeals to the type of person who brings it up in a discussion about *checks notes* Major League Quidditch and J.K. Rowling.

Hey now. It sounds like you think the world may revolve around these different persecuted minorities.

The world revolves around me. A straight, white, cis dude in his mid 30's. Everyone needs to stop talking about serious societal problems. I have yet to be handed my executive salaried, no show job or permanent

But all of the shows, to varying degrees, don’t commit to their more interesting ideas and just fall back on Marvel’s punchy-quippy formula.

That is an EXCELLENT example. Probably the best example anyone can possibly come up with. Well put.

Their biggest problem is they don’t make exceptional movies. Good or even great ones sure. Enjoyable ones no doubt. But they, with two exceptions, never really get past that, and theres no real award for ‘Most consistent ongoing experience’.

Go watch the recent John Oliver segment on forming unions. More often than not the secret vote fails. That’s why Image is forcing it, it is a low effort option that frequently ends in a victory for the company.

Why would they? All they have to do is wait. Once the public stops paying attention, it’s over. And the “public” doesn’t care, because they’re thoroughly brainwashed and disempowered. Look at the comments. Variations on “What’s in it for me?” and “The company always wins. (As it should)” abound.

i wonder what universe destroying nonsense burnham is going to cry through this time.  they really need to take it down a notch.  the other series succeeded without being so over the top.

I get the feeling that the implications beyond this individual case will be the same as Khan’s magic blood from Star Trek: Into Darkness or the spore drive, for that matter; it’ll either be outright ignored or handwaved away.

I think the best case scenario is a press release that says, “We consider those stories and characters to now be part of the Legends universe and look forward to adding new stories in their place.”

It’s not just that Iron Fist should be Asian because he’s a martial arts hero, it’s that Danny Rand’s whole backstory is a particularly egregious example of the trope where the lone white character is the most skilled person in the setting. Danny’s origin is basically, “in a hidden city where everyone is a martial

Well, Indonesians are Asian, sure.

Having Iron Fist and martial artists characters only be Asian feels just as racist as making them white.
