I’m happy with the version we got, and based on Scott’s Alien movies, I’m pretty sure this is the right position.

I wish that Pegg’s outlook was more prevalent. Artists shouldn’t just give audiences what they want, they should give them the things that they didn’t know that they wanted until they experience them. Nobody asked for any of the Cornetto trilogy, but now that we have them they seem naturally obvious. It’s nice to be…
With the utmost respect, I disagree. I think that Shaun is a great movie and lots of fun, but Hot Fuzz is about as close to a perfect movie as it can get. Everything about it works on every possible level. It’s lowbrow hilarious and highbrow clever in equal measure and without sacrificing either.
What a loss. 70 certainly isn’t a Spring chicken, but it’s still too soon.
My wife and I went to Australia and New Zealand for our honeymoon, and we spent a day at Hobbiton. Is it a tourist trap? Yes. But we went in February, so it was a beautiful summer day. There were bees buzzing in the air and birds chirped as they alighted on hobbit clotheslines. And then the tour ends at the Prancing…
I have a strong suspicion that the explanation is that they have powers related to all of these characters, but ultimately at a significantly lower level. So sure, it’s a very broad powerset, which is extremely powerful no matter what, but the individual powers are pale imitations of the source material. Honestly,…
Interesting! I didn’t realize that Simon was all but forgotten. As I said, just from being around the right age he remains the most recognizable character associated with the franchise, so it’s interesting that other characters might have surpassed him in prominence in the series.
I mean, the Nintendo versions were simple enough that it wouldn’t be hard to elaborate on the story to add characters if they wanted to without stepping on too many continuity toes. But I don’t know the Castlevania fandom enough to know if that would throw everyone into a rage.
Thanks!
Thanks!
As an old person who was around for the early games (and Captain N), but never really became a fan of the game series but who also enjoyed the first show, can someone tell me where Simon Belmont sits in this timeline? Are these shows both long after his time, or is he somewhere between them, or does he arrive later?
Pretty much, yeah. But fans of a certain age just have this hardon for the TOS era and they keep wanting to tell stories there. And, fair enough, I’m sure that there are ways to tell good stories in that time period that don’t create story problems. Hell, SNW is doing a pretty good job of it. Or they could have simply…
Yeah, the Discovery thing really bothers me, both from a continuity standpoint and just the foundation of the universe. As you say, everyone just super duper promises not to talk about the ship that was a really big deal in the Klingon war. Like, maybe other people didn’t know exactly how the spore drive worked, but…
I tried switching to the “natural” stuff for health reasons, but I just decided to eat less peanut butter and have Jif/Skippy when I do. The natural stuff just isn’t as good.
100% agree. I felt like I should try switching to the “natural” stuff, but after a while I switched back because it just wasn’t as good. It’s not terrible, and I can certainly enjoy it, but I’d rather just eat a little less peanut butter and have the good stuff when I do.
Eh, I tried to get into the “natural” stuff for a couple years, but while it’s not horrible, it’s just not as good as the Jiff/Skippy style. I’d rather just eat a bit less peanut butter and actually have the good stuff.
I tried switching to “natural” style peanut butter for a couple years before going back to Jiff/Skippy. The “natural” stuff just isn’t nearly as good.
Well, it isn’t an extended universe in the comics, but it’s going to be part of an extended universe in the show. But that’s really beside the point, which is that while I have somewhat mixed feelings about The Boys, both as a comic and a show, it is a story that is about something; it’s trying to make a point through…
Yeah, and there are certainly problems with trying to make every property into an extended universe. But you can tell stories set in a shared universe that are still focused on trying to use the setting and characters to say something interesting to the audience and/or to tell stories that are focused on emotional…
Man, fuck the studios so hard.
