I would be glad to see aliens attack and destroy us just to prove him wrong. Of course, his base would still believe he’ll rally after he got merc’ed.

I agree, but was that intentionally in Maron’s voice? Cuz that’s exactly how he’d phrase it.
Oh, I totally agree. But let’s not kid ourselves - 1. There’s a lot worse on TV and 2. For whatever dumbass reason, these two women can’t get the top level billing they deserve. If this show helps, it’s done it’s duty. I will even respect the Millers on this basis. Enhancing Margo Martindale’s fame is inherently…
To be fair, those (Clinking glasses, and unsuccessfully keeping secret) are also all episodes of Mad Men and Breaking Bad...
Respectful counter - they’re both carrying a show, and not unsuccessfully. They can both do more, but this is a nice showcase especially for Retta. If anyone is slumming, it’s Mae Whitman - the part is not good. David Hornsby is having a lot of fun, though.
I think the issue, for me, is that people in my demo (late 30s) genuinely like the movie. Also Dirty Dancing and Footloose. If they’re enjoying this outside irony, something seems terribly wrong.
This is also why Limitless was the worst, most vacuous hit in the last decade.
Maybe I’m just barely too young for it, but I’ve never been able to watch this movie in full. It’s just a weird combo of boring and silly. I last tried and made it to the volleyball scene and gave up. I have also never made it through the 80s dance movies.
Movies from 1932 are hard for me to evaluate fairly. I enjoyed it but I can’t see it out of its time. I suppose I’d say the film is decent and Hawks is great, more accurately. DePalma is trash and his Scarface is funny trash.
Overrated director taking on a remake of an overrated remake by an overrated director of a decent/great film, with it overlooked by legendary/amazing screenwriters. Very mixed, all around. Hope the Coen will overwhelm the mediocrity surrounding.
My best friend used to babysit regularly in NorCal. She’s an amazing person but was, for years, oblivious to pop culture. She babysat for Robin Williams, Danny Glover, and Jerry Garcia. Did not know who any of them were.
One time I was running through the Castro neighborhood in SF (I lived right by it and routinely ran there and hung out there) and I ran through an intersection with a lot of nearby bars and cafes when a familiar looking older Asian American guy sees me and his eyes pop wide. He looks at me and for NO APPARENT REASON…
Ok, you’ve all convinced me. My exposure to Cable may have unfairly tainted my view of New Mutants. Is Cable the Sammy Hagar of X-Men?
As someone who has never used any version of this product, I’ll say this seems only slightly grosser than the base product itself.
I mean, at that level, all human communication is that. McGarnagle is telling me I shouldn’t forget about McGarnagle here.
There are definitely nice, well-appointed houses for very wealthy people. I’ve seen a few. But, I think there’s a self-selection process here. If you’re tasteful enough to have a well-done, thoughtful house, you’re not tacky enough to put it online. Maybe you host a charity fundraiser for a small group, but you…
If only.
USA should just expand its brand a hair. It’s built on a) breezy, quirky fun shows with good/great acting and writing (Monk), and b) breezy, sexy fun shows that... something (White Collar/Suits/Burn Notice). Now it’s getting a shade darker but it had a solid audience for a and b. Sinner was great, tho, and I’d love…
I got into comics from the late 80s through the late 90s. But the first time I heard of New Mutants was in relation to Cable. I actually also disliked Cable but he seemed like the completely central figure in the series. I see your point though. I feel this way about Carnage and how he ended up hijacking a lot of…
Umm... I was a pretty big comic fan, mostly of Marvel, and I read a lot of X-Men. Am I crazy to say that a New Mutants movie that doesn’t have CABLE is perhaps a hard sell? I mean, I would have put this after... She-Hulk, Namor, Moon Knight, Silver Sable... and certainly I’d rather see a solo shot on Doom or another…
