The presence of the older woman (the mom, I guess?) really undercuts the sexism point.  The clip is from the perspective of the woman and her embarrassment, so the punchline plays the same way.  Also, consider how quickly the whole thing happens - it’s not lingering or lurid.  It’s a fast joke.  Let’s let this one go,

I love this Matt Walsh, but he always reminds me of the horrible Matt Walsh.  Can good (comedy) Matt Walsh just murder (Trump enabling misogynistic moron) Matt Walsh for clarity?  Or maybe make the bad Matt Walsh go by Mat Walsh?  He is clearly trying to play to hip millenial conservatives, so a weird spelling will

I love, love, love Allison Brie, but her career trajectory bewilders me. I HOPE she wants to have weird, quirky character roles, but I am confused as to why she can’t get mainstream lead parts. The peak of this was in a mediocre-to-decent romcom called “How to Be Single”. The completely forgettable Dakota Johnson had

We need to fight their sacred cows hard, too.  Why should they pay for healthcare?  Fine - why should I pay for their BS nonsense?  We need to fight them on the ground more aggressively, but we get nervous.

Say more about that.

Poor JLo. Can’t get respect anywhere!

WHEN DO WE GET A FINALE FOR HOUSE OF COSBYS?????

The timing could not be more appropriate!

Let’s be honest - MAGOOP is pretty much Ivanka’s 2024 platform.

I’m not for cancel culture.  I am for just putting people out to pasture when they’re done.  Let’s save Gilliam’s legacy and send him off to a nursing home.  The man clearly had a stroke.

GOOP is a lot like MAGA. Somehow it’s really popular and yet no one I know admits to liking it. Yet, statistically, some of my friends are GOOPING and MAGAing.

“the most influential Black performers of the 1980s and ’90s (and also, arguably, all time)“ - I think you omitted “comic” because otherwise that’s categorically wrong, as much as I like Murphy (and admit to Cosby’s relevance.)

There’s a crazy long list of musicians, writers, playwrights, and actors ahead of or near

Oh, can someone get Melania to go crazy about this and blame black people for this “black list”?

Ok, but I think I’ll take the risk.  If I can be scammed inside, then there’s an unquantifiable risk inside or out.  And only inside am I stuck in lines with smokers and lottery ticket buyers.  So...

-The dog sketch was disappointing, but I think it landed one great brutal line - asking all of the scientists which Democrat they’re excited for. Except for Warren, I don’t know anyone from my friends who is excited about any candidate. It’s a serious problem. And I think this explains some of the tone of the show

So, this dude is basically a male Tracey Flick, right?  Or a political Anne Hathaway?  Yeah, he’s charming, smart, etc.  But he has a certain drive and ambition that, with his youth, is off-putting.  (I say this as a man who loves HRC, Hathaway, and Flick.  I think I dislike these things in men, maybe?)

Agree.  I think I like the pre-Tree of Life Malick far more than the post.  At this point, I’d just like him to mix it up a bit more.

Genuine question - my experience with “media personalities” (as opposed to journalists) is they are mostly stonecold sociopaths and they could just as easily pitch for Al Jazeera, Al Qaeda, Fox News, or MSNBC,, if the money is good and the clicks are there. So, I wonder if we over-exaggerate how these people feel

Somehow, I suspect that this will be the first Malick movie I’ve liked since the New World. With all due respect, it sounds like what Mike views as flaws in Malick might work as strengths for me here.

Are we good?
