So you’re saying this is... Fake News?
**Puts on sunglasses**
Fuck, wrong network. Eh, still full of old people.

“Hate to be that guy, but Kidman was born in the US.”
AHEM. It is well established that Fox News and its viewers understand that Hawaii (Kidman’s birth location) is variously in Kenya or Indonesia. They will absolutely ask for her long-form birth certificate.
I really am enjoying these distracted, somewhat disconnected blurbs from Barsanti lately. We see it, Sam, and we love it.
Strongly disagree. Every documentary could reasonably be accused of bias. It’s inherent in the form. The best documentaries ever always have rocks they don’t turn over, and perspectives they don’t address. I also disagree that Jesus Camp would be well received by evangelicals.
I’ve watched hundreds of documentaries and I’ve never seen one that didn’t manipulate me. In my opinion, that’s inherent in narrative film. Once you hire an editor and a director, manipulation will result. They have points of view and a story to tell.
Yes. This is all Ryan Murphy:
1. Glee - Fame but Ryan Murphy-ed
2. Scream Queens - Scream but Ryan Murphy-ed
3. American Crime Story - News but Ryan Murphy-ed
4. American Horror Story - Various horror stories but Ryan Murphy-ed
Ryan Murphy, oh Ryan Murphy. Will I ever find an artist as talented, frustrating, and fantastic as you? Although I prefer a lot of other writers for sheer enjoyment, Murphy elicits from me the widest range of responses going from:
“Wow, that was pretty great” to
“Goddamnit, why haven’t I sold a book or a screenplay?” to
…
I mean they gave House of Cards 6 seasons. So if this is more like the Nip/Tuck Ryan Murphy, I see 9 here. If it’s good Murphy, probably two.
The Full Murphy!
We have a darker future? Wow! I’m almost impressed. Good job, future!
Complaints about documentaries being sensational or misleading strikes me like opera fans who complain about new works, or (gasp) operas in English. In niche, dying art forms, it is sometimes good to have some sizzle. I love documentaries, and I’ll enjoy the quieter ones too, but I can’t deny that Moore has had an…
I’m very torn. I’ve basically given up on the Steelers because of Ben, Bell, and Antonio. (Holy crap, they really were the Killer Bs! They killed the franchise! And before anyone yells at me about being anti-Bell or Brown, I’ll say I hate Ben more. But Bell was objectively dumb, and failed at his protest. No spin can…
I think that’s a false comparison, honestly. Inglourious Basterds principally takes place in 1944. The person who is killed (Hitler) is the one who would oversee (with the assistance of hundreds of thousands) several million murders over the next year.
I finally realize why Cars sucked. It’s because cars suck.
Yes! Though I’d add the absurdly great fills in “Chill Out Tent”. They make a decent track a fantastic one.
I am a giant fan, and I would suggest that the band dropped (slightly) when Franz Nicolay left for a bit. So glad they brought him back. Nicolay feels a bit like Clarence Clemons to the Hold Steady - this ineffable element that really raises their game. Is it necessary? Not exactly. But I think Boys and Girls in…
I admit I watched that movie years ago, so I barely remembered the second role. Wasn’t it just an epilogue role of a dude in a coffee shop? I can’t remember anything tolerable about the movie to be honest - it was the first movie I saw that I had strong negative critical opinions on that I came to on my own. …
Fair. Also, wasn’t the surprise appearance of Scoot one of the best joys of Once Upon a Time? I wish he was in a lot more, but I love how he randomly shows up in great stuff (like Fargo!) Scoot is so great he almost makes me okay with mustaches.
I agree he was great in Allied, but I find that’s an exception. I’ve seen the bulk of Pitt’s movies (many bad ones in there!) because of my wife’s fandom. I think I’m saying that Pitt is less capable of being a regular leading man than Clooney/Damon/DiCaprio. Those three in particular can sort of coast on their own in…
Perhaps it is - I don’t recall it. I would say it’s mighty unusual for a character actor to be on that many magazine covers, though. Maybe we have hope for Margo Martindale getting celebrity publicity she deserves?
