I dunno - I'm more in the "After some brilliantly-good early albums, M. Ward refined and focused his approach to production values instead of anything remotely visceral, starting with 2006’s pretty-but-vacuous Post-War (though you could see it was coming on Transfiguration)" camp.

I always like AV Crosstalk, but this one is pretty esoteric - the very assumption that music needs to be 'relevant' (in this case meaning 'relatable') to be enjoyable is pretty silly.
