This sort of thing makes my blood boil. The blatant hypocrisy is staggering particularly among those who throw around the word fascist as though they understood the meaning of the word (they don’t). There is a time and a place for everything. Launching a political protest while you’re working is not one of them. YOU

First, that’s irrelevant to the topic at hand. Second, I’m pretty sure I covered the right of a business owner to deny service where such denial is legal (which means there is no service at all, respectful or not). Finally, of course it’s wrong to deny service to LGBTQ customers, and if it’s legal somewhere to do so

I’m not involved in this, but happened to come across your exchange. Wanted to let you know that from the objective perspective of an outside observer, you’re not winning this and you sound really mad and also stupid.

Agreed, but some people are actually fucking crazy nutjobs IRL too.

As a restaurant manager, if any server tried this they would be slowly worked off the schedule until they either sucked it up and did their job or moved to an “on call” position. I’m not moving around the floor plan everytime you have a problem with a government worker.

Yeah. When I first read the headline I was thinking, I can see this being a legitimate concern... until i read “Dupont Circle”. If you’re working hospitality less than a mile from the White House, you’re in the thick of national politics and you have a choice: A.) Cover up your outrage with a smile while on the clock,

You understand that you are quite literally making my point for me? There is absolutely nothing you can point to about my comments, me, or anything related to me that would make me a “Nazi.” Yet, because I expressed disagreement with you, here you are, referring to me as a Nazi.

I think if you’re working in a place where politicos are coming through on the regs, switching sections can only work a couple times before it’s time to GTFO. It’s one thing if you work in Pittsburgh and a random scummer shows up once in the proverbial blue moon. It’s quite another if you work in or around DC.

Dear K: You’re working in the service industry as someone else’s employee. Your “moral code” in this situation is irrelevant. Your options are two:

but then how can I force my beliefs on someone before they try to force their beliefs onto me?

I believe so given the comment chain and past news stories. The letter doesn’t state a political view so this is really a good article to have people act out against a good straw man.  I’m a bit concerned about the amount of comments condoning assault of the patron or messing with them in general.

Maybe because you are a decent human being and capable of separating your work self from your internet crazy self?

Especially given all shops have the classic “we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” signs.. so just put to use.

Just serve them, keep your interaction basic and simple and take their money.

I know this is an unpopular opinion here in the Kinjaverse, but... Just act like a professional, and treat them as you would any other customer.

Isn’t this a lot like refusing to decorate cakes for occasions you don’t approve of, or refusing to dispense birth control for religious reasons?

I guess it depends on if you’re at work to express your moral superiority or to work. Make that decision for yourself but remember only one will pay the bills. If it’s simply that important to you, make it a silent protest for the sakes of your employer and colleagues.

Then they’ll just ask for your manager and demand you be fired. Then they’ll go to Twitter to call for harassment. Better to go about it either with your manager’s permission or use a stealthier option.

Well, to be fair, these ships have bow thrusters for manoeuvring that are so good that they probably could have docked the ship without the tugs. The tugs are probably required by the local law. (Just guessing.) Their radar probably told them their postition by GPS to the centimeter.  Still possible to have accidents,

That tug boat was rollin’ some coal.. or would it be floatin’ coal?
