Of course, for as much as people say our roads and infrastructure are crap, you can still drive from Miami to Seattle, or San Diego to Boston, in four or five days without too much trouble. And even if you want to get off the interstate and onto some of the back roads along the way you’ll still do it without expecting

Italy is also roughly the size of Arizona. Whenever people talk about building high speed rail in the U.S. — or any of a number of other social or infrastructure items that some European countries have that we don’t — they never seem to grasp just how damn big this country is. There are a lot of geographical factors

Yeah, but there’s not much of Mississippi that’s east of Starkville. You’re practically in Alabama at that point.

I didn’t even realize Connecticut had beaches to speak of. Thought it was a lot of rocky coasts and estuary inlets.

Gotta love a state that actually sat down and said, “You know what? The best way to turn left is to turn right. Let’s incorporate that into every road we build.”

Mentioned this in another post, but the major roads in Mississippi are all pretty good. It’s some of the local roads, particularly in Jackson, that will destroy your axles.

I live in Central Mississippi and can attest to this. Mississippi Highway 25 from Jackson to Starkville is a smooth, four-lane cruise, but it’s also as desolate a 100-mile stretch of highway as you’ll ever find east of Texas.

It’s like that here in Mississippi as well. The interstates and larger state roads are perfectly fine, for the most part. But a lot of the local roads in Jackson are a nightmare. There are photos of potholes deep enough to put a full-sized Christmas tree in.
A couple of years ago a high school senior died the day

The same principle is used by the Air Force with nuclear missile silos. Most of them run on technology from the 1970s or 80s at the latest, including huge floppy disks that are only used for that purpose. It’s hopelessly outdated, but it’s also a great security feature because it’s literally impossible to hack.

Yeah, from reading the explanation it sounds like the accounting and billing system is tied into actual distribution and logistics. Maybe they could still physically pump the gas from the pipeline into the distribution network, but it would have caused just as big a mess if they didn’t know who was supposed to get how

This might be a dumb question, but why is the river closed to boat traffic? Are they afraid of a barge or tow hitting the bridge and causing more damage or even a collapse? The risk of the bridge collapsing in the minute or so it takes a boat to pass underneath seems minuscule.

Amen.
I have nothing against EVs. If that’s what fits your situation, it’s what you want, and you have easy access to charging stations, then more power to you. That choice is the beauty of America. Maybe the technology will even be on par with current ICE technology much sooner than we think.

But for my situation, I

They should be showing two movies a week instead of dragging it out over eight weeks. Then they could bring people back to the theaters a quarter of a saga at a time.

After all of this, I desperately want to imagine these two women winding up browsing the same section of the Victoria’s Secret and getting into another argument over the last piece of lingerie they both want.

Watching the video, I thought about that. It’d be much easier to throw your hands up and say, “Fuck it, I could have parked 50 feet away and been in the store by now. This isn’t worth the headache.”
But then a few other thoughts occurred:

That’s probably as high as she can count.

Or would want to do? As soon as he puts a hand on her shoulder, makes any attempt to physically move her, you really think that psycho woman is going to calmly comply? She screams assault, probably claims he attempted to sexually assault her (because she’s so hot and he’s not, you know?), he gets fired and brought up

When it comes to student loan forgiveness, I and I would venture to say most people opposed to it have no problem with these kinds of programs. It’s like the G.I. Bill, where you’re performing a service to the country or state in exchange for an education. If you’re willing to make that trade and those sacrifices,

Season 7 of The Simpsons might have been peak Simpsons. So, so many great episodes. Out of 25 episodes that season, half of them are either all-timers or at least have some all-time bits.

Got my car smashed up good while parked on a city street yesterday. Some uninsured, unlicensed jackhole said he fell asleep at the wheel and clobbered it. Long story short, I work 60 miles from where I live so I needed a rental car to at least get home.
