I do both. I do love me a beautifully written pieces of literature (I have read some literary books dozens of times), and also love fantasy (I ploughed my way through ASOIAF last summer, lived in my room for a week when I read LOTR).

Make up is self inflicted. Why do people feel free to comment/mock about clothes but make up is out of bounds? I agree that we shouldn't bodysnark, but make up is like clothes: poor taste is poor taste. It is not a feminist issue. It is just poor taste.
