I absolutely love the Fletch books. One of my favorite sequences in any book is the first chapter of Fletch Won, done entirely in dialog, no descriptive text at all, and yet you never get confused about who's speaking what line. Absolutely brilliant.
Very strongly recommend The Devil in the White City for further reading on this, especially if you're into architecture and/or true crime.
