If that's actually true, I would surmise that the reason is because the merchandise they produce isn't designed to appeal to women. Most women probably won't buy a t-shirt that's designed for men.

She's very competent. I wouldn't go much further than that.

Amy Acker is Joss Whedon's "fetch." He'll never stop trying to make Amy Acker happen.

Well, "huge" is relative here. I imagine it's huge when compared to the profit that I make doing what I do.

I think I have an idea for a new AVClub list: "10 Artists who managed to make a huge profit from constantly talking about their own psychological issues."

Yeah, since I'm pretty sure that the problem, post-gunshot, is not the presence of a bullet, but the gaping hole in your guts which is now probably pumping bodily fluids into your body cavity.

My favorite part of that is when several people are knocked out at the same time, and they all come to at the same time and conveniently the exact right moment.

To be fair to Downton Abby, the character of Anna does appear to be permanently scarred by the experience.

Not to mention that "Dingos Ate My Baby" is a great band name.

*backs quietly away from HDB*

I just want to point out that you are responding to someone who in all likelihood is a 14-year-old boy.

Pie?? Look, authenticity is important. Everyone know Asians just sit around drinking tea and being inscrutable, accompanied by the sound of a gong and a zither.

Well, that's a strong theory.

Your experience doesn't mean much, though. In my experience, the women of my age group are very wary of long-term commitment with men. So there you go.

If the bean counters actually gave a shit, there'd be a lot more man flesh than there is. Magic Mike is not exactly a typical male protagonist.

Do you think that maybe has anything to do with ingrained cultural sexism?

I think you're really missing the point. Most men IRL don't actually talk to each other about anything interesting. Film isn't about "real life."

True enough. People are still talking about American Psycho - does anyone actually relate to the main character?

That's crazy to me, though. Unless you're insanely racist, how hard is it to relate to the common problems of human existence?

Yeah, but it's not JUST the protagonists. Even bit characters are overwhelmingly men, even if there's no reason for it. Many movies and TV shows (and books for that matter) seem to exist in a universe where men comprise 80% of humanity.
