Sadly, not since the early 90’s, dear.

MBV and Curve are not goth.
I’d argue for early Cocteaus, too. Plenty of those 4AD bands in the early-mid ’80s. Also, hard not to see this piece of magnificence as anything other than goth (with the actual Gothmother on bass):
Tori Amos, Seether, PINK!!!! No, no, no, no. Usually, I don’t like gatekeeping but come on, did you even try? (Seriously, Misfits is punk. Sure, some goths like them but they are still a punk band. Not a goth band.)
Because I need more to screech about, how does this list not include any Killing Joke or Jesus and Mary Chain or Neubauten or Xmal? And since when was Tori Amos goth? And as much as I love Josef K, I would not consider them goth.
Goth Talk is still one of my favourite SNL skits. The goth crowd in Tampa is very real.
Nah, was a H.S. goth when that Pink song was out. This is not a serious list.
“Better than “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and I don’t care if that take some notches off my goth-adjacent cred”
Exactly what I needed today. I am an internal goth - dark AF on the inside due to major depressive disorder, so I wear colors on the outside to cheer myself up. It works about half the time, music takes care of the rest.
What a beauty Peter Murphy was. He made me touch his nipple once at a show. It was weird. I think he was high. He acted like he knew me, all “Hello, how are you?” in inbetween song banter and I just smiled and said I love you, as one does, and he grabbed my hand and put it over his heart. He was really sweaty and my…
Why the fuck is Pink on the list? My former teenage semi-goth self is outraged by this addition. There’s several dubious inclusions, but this one is by far the worst.
This list kinda hurts my bat filled soul.
It’s a good effort but a lot of this list would generally be not really considered Goth by individuals who actually belong to this subculture.
Alot of these bands are in my list from my hardcore punk days, but I refuse to be labeled Goth. The Cure and Kate Bush were the start to my rebellious climb and labeling anything Goth from those days and beyond through the 80s is wrong, and I will fight it until you remove the anarchy symbol from my ass cheek.
Please. A true old-school goth would eat Pink and Seether as a light snack.
Goth. The trend that won’t die.
Cities in Dust - you picked the right one.
Maybe it’s just me but at least some of these artists and songs... I don’t remember them being Goth at all (I don’t count simply being pro-non comformity as “Goth”, otherwise we might as well start saying the Mods and Rockers of the 60s and 70s were Goth). P!nk being labelled Goth in particular feels a bit odd.
Morning Dew, Einsturzende Neubauten. When Westworld meets Goth.
