Actually, it is BS, but not for the reason you say.

The GOP would be in the middle of impeachment hearings because Democrats would treat an impeachment trial like a serious and solemn event worthy of due process, even if they disagree with the merits. We would be arguing in good faith, confronting the allegations head on, because we believe the voters would demand it.

At the moment, any impeachment trial in the Senate will be given “Kavanaugh rules.” That is, there will be no witnesses or evidence. Each side will get 30 or so minutes to grandstand, followed either immediately or a few days later with a party-line vote.
