As you say, believing it should be easier to get a divorce is not the same as thinking divorce is stigma-free. In fact, I would say that thinking it should be harder to get a divorce suggests that they think the stigma against divorce has become so weakened to have lost it's power to shame folks into staying married.…

Did they do any research on the idea that divorce was seen as success in the 70's? There was certainly a small subset of women who felt this way, but the idea that the stigma of divorce is new is some serious revisionist history.
