There’s a difference between “intense fandom” and “evangelical, fire-and-brimstone.” The context is not obvious, and I don’t know what you’re fucking getting at. What exactly makes them go beyond “Christianity” and into “fire-and-brimstone”?

Please explain your analogy further. Are you saying they’re “blindly faithful” to their game? Are you saying they try to convert SSB4/Brawl players at all [hint: the skillsets don’t carry over, so they don’t bother]? Are you saying fans of SSB4 are “Christians” while SSBM players are “fire-and-brimstone Baptists”?

Describing it as “evangelical” is a misnomer - they are dedicated to what they feel is the game that is more-fun and/or more-competitive. They don’t blindly worship a 16-year old game because they’re told to.

Brawl very nearly killed the SSB competitive community. It was literally designed to prevent competitive gameplay from taking hold, while introducing a version of Meta-knight who was so much better than the rest of the cast that a further schism occurred based on whether tournaments would ban him or not.

It’s the better game.

I don’t think his discomfort in dealing with a team of Blizzard lawyers is worth him satisfying someone-on-the-internet’s need to see said source code.

You can peruse plenty of open source game engines, especially from ID software. Doom 3 is available on github.
