Good precaution but turns out that by morning, there's no steam. It's only warm by then.

Just learned a new way, if you have a pressure cooker. I make my eggs in a pressure cooker and the shell comes right off, every time. Works with soft, medium, or hard boiled eggs. It's pretty amazing:

Or make it overnight. Get a Thermos. Add 1/2 cup oatmeal and 1-1/2 cups of boiling water, a pinch pf salt. Close. In the morning, perfect oatmeal.

Yeah, that was me. Until I cut myself. Badly. Not "stitches badly" but "hurt like holy crap for a couple of days" badly.

Doodle is awesome. And free. Over the years, they have added features without sacrificing the thing that makes it so good: Simplicity.

Peeler is great for this. If you're doing a lot of slices, or making slices of something wider than a peeler, look at a mandoline. BUT you must pay close attention. Nothing this side of a chain saw is as as nasty as a mandoline cut. (Ask me how I know!)

The hot water method has turned out to be one of the most popular posts on my food blog:

Sounds whacky, but tomato juice is supposed to really work to de-skunkify a dog. Sorry I don't remember the source.

The hot water is the key. You know how rice gets all stiff in the refrigerator? That's because one of the starches in rice (amylopectin, I think) softens as it warms and becomes soluble.

Clever. It's obvious once you see it.

My bad. I assumed you weren't tipping. If you tip but dislike the system, then we're not that far apart. Since I assumed you don't tip, I guess that makes me the dick!

LOL.

Because it doesn't matter whether you like it or not, think it's fair or not, think it's a sensible policy or not — that's how prices and wages are set up here. Given that's how it is, not tipping makes you a dick and a troll. It means you're expecting everyone else to pay your way.

If you don't feel comfortable using aluminum, don't, but the science doesn't support the claim of relationship between aluminum and Alzheimer's.

Nice little mini-lesson. Thanks!

For lard, look in ethnic markets for "Manteca."

Dr Rafael Pelayo of Stanford's Sleep Center says to breathe in. If your nostrils collapse and restrict airflow, then the strips may help. They can compensate for nostril-induced restriction.
