TL; DR, You are sick, nimrod, stay home.

Burke, you're wasting your time on this. You'll find that "Corpore Metal" is the single most arrogant know-it-all on the io9 discussion forums. Historically, science has repeatedly made great breakthroughs with new discoveries based on ideas that were initially dismissed as "nutty" by arrogant peers. As a scientist,

People should be encouraged to simultaneously reach far and wide for potential answers to questions while taking none of them to be exhaustively correct. To take by default a discouraging stance towards new ideas is not part of scepticism, it's something else entirely and does nobody any good.

At a basic level, all biology - everything in the cosmos, in fact - is physics.

You appear to have already decided that the Penrose-Hameroff hypothesis is "nutty", which is, ahem, unscientific. If an idea is testable, and if experiments confirm it, then it's provisionally true. Period. I'm not saying that Orch-OR is,

I liked Eureka, and I like fun, but either would be a step up from reality shows and shark movies. Besides, who says you can't have both fun and serious shows?

With 21 hours a week of prime time, don't you think there is room for both?

The world really needs a proper space opera. Not something that is "in the near future" or some dystopia but rather more like Star Trek without being childish like the Star Gate series. Something between Star Trek and BSG without the major conspiracy theory + earth is doomed etc. would be great.

And yes, something

I know that the time to have this argument was years ago, but I still don't understand the anger over it. As far as I can tell, it stems almost entirely from anger over the fact that "God" wound up existing within the context of the show. Despite the fact that several characters saw/interacted with beings who directly

Point and case right here. Some people may have not liked the ending, but it did far better than the original series (1 season to 4 for the reboot). And if I'm having a down day I just search "Adama Maneuver" to remind myself that that happened. :)

No no no no no. You download your mind into a computer, yes? Tthe original is destroyed, yes? If yes, you now have one person and one computer that believes it is a person. If no you have one computer that believes itself to be a person. End result: You are dead. This computer will continue to exist and make

Wow your argument is flawless. Excellent work. I've never seen such compelling lines of evidence.

Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine? :)

GMO crops reduce, not increase, the amount of pesticides used. That's the point of the modification - farmers can control weeds with a single high-concentration application, instead of repeated low-concentration applications over the entire growing season.

You probably shouldn't claim to be pro-science by insulting people childishly and not providing evidence.

A lot of good choices here, but this is still my favorite.
