Interestingly, it’s because Mazda botched it with their Nagare design language. It looked cool in concept form (and in the Furai), but it translated terribly to production.
I am not sure you get it. That wasn’t hyperbole; it was just plain wrong on multiple fronts:
I, for one, am glad to see the headlights downsizing again. The ginormous chrome-embedded stripes that stretch halfway to the windshield are far worse.
Drag out the Corvette, and I have to drag out the ‘85 Mustang LX that will destroy a Corvette for $15K. It’s an old forum conversation, and it doesn’t cover the difference between these cars.

That sounds more like a ticket for honking at a cop. I have never heard of that law being applied any other way.

My car charges overnight. While I sleep. I don’t sit around waiting for it.
In 5 more years this will cost $20K too - and not require oil changes or gas stations. And it will still be far quieter, more torquey, and immune to gas price spikes.
