Golf R is an S3 hatch, haldex based AWD. The A4 has a similar engine, but totally different platform, and totally different AWD system.

Nope, the Golf R shares its platform with the Audi S3/TTS. No VW model currently shares its platform with the A4.

Yeah, probably little to no changes between 2008 and 2017 that would improve on those issues.

The Golf R bumps the bottom limit of the 3-series range. For the price of a Golf R, you can get a base 320i with 1 option or package.

How about a quarter mile in the 11s with a simple ECU tune. W/ the practicality of AWD, 4 doors, plenty of rear leg room, a big hatch for loading stuff, oh and good fuel economy. It’s kind of the best combinations of all things car.
