That’s not true. A computer program doesn’t care what are common or not. Sure attackers are going to program their crackers to focus on common words first, but once those are computer (which they’ve been computer years ago) they’ll move on to uncommon words.

It would surely take a long time! But not thousands of years. Dedicated attackers have multiple computers running at once and they share their results with others. There are petabytes of hashes available in the deep dark ends of the web.

I believe this is the reply you were talking about...The thing is you’re wrong about how dictionary attacks work. An attacker will have precomputed the password hashes in advance so all the computer would need to do is search the hash string. Something a computer can do in seconds.
