In Europe it is illegal. In the USA it is very difficult to win a libel case, especially if the pieces were fact-checked and had gone through a good shake in the editing process. I believe the editorial union here. The articles were deleted in cowardice.
If the stories were, as this posts says, “true and accurate” then there was no reason to delete them. Doing so simply emboldens people who want to use their money to silence others, and that’s not reasonable.
