Yeah I think you may have had an unrealistic expectation of it understanding idioms. Hell as a Mexican Spanish speaker, for some things I need a translator to speak to a Castilian Spanish speaker. For example, mango to me is not a slang for anything, its just a mango. Which in this context still makes no sense.
