Interestingly, since Chrome already uses the titlebar for the tab bar, using side tabs gains you almost no vertical space. I just tested it by using my finger while transitioning and the vertical gain is literally a few pixels at most.

It should. I've never had a jailed ssh account, but from my understanding all it does is limit you to certain directories and/or commands. I'm no tunnel expert, but I think as long as you can connect to your SSH server then it should work.

I'm not really sure about the stale connection issue.
