The use of ‘The Sweetest Sounds’ in the premiere gives me another opportunity to evangelize one of my favorite ‘covers’ of all time - nearly a perfect song in its own right from a master of the craft

Ha, my brain no worky today, . . . saw the thumbnail and crossed my wires on kids shows reading the titel, and clicked on this trying to figure how Ariana Grande had inserted herself in the legacy of the late Paul Reubens.

Amusingly, the running gag of the last episode of CBB was all the stuff old friends couldn’t talk about on a podcast during the strike.  Basically Levi’s point turned into a bit.

For me to POOP ON!!

Where a series ‘extra’ is just as brilliant as the series itself.

The ‘shark fin’ is to hide the c-pillar, while the glass at the top gives the illusion of a floating greenhouse. The sliver of glass between the roofline and the shark fin is thin and tinted enough to obscure that it’s covering structural steel.

Reliably, rather than discuss the merits of the matter at hand, discourse devolves into navel-gazing and disparagement over individualized conceptions of subjective labels indicating tribal alliances.

Can you imagine, separated by nothing more than a thin layer of gaberdine!!

Fetch!

If I had to speculate, I’d say from the outset the writers had an ambition for Logan to die, and the key aspects of that death would be UNEXPECTED and INCONVENIENT. Logan, with death a certainty for the narrative, served as a machine to introduce the caprice of your passing, and the scramble afterwards to balance

Dorks?!?  Why’d it hafta be Dorks?!?

The chuckle is just the amuse bouche, that exchange opens your imagination to the types of characters who would engage in such an exchange, and it sets your expectations for a relatable narrative about complicated relationships.

This show hits that uncanny valley where praise for it ruins it.  It’s amusing enough, but the fans push it into ‘Elaine!!  You HAVE to see the BAY-BEE!!!’ territory.  For instance, I enjoyed it. . . enough, but I enjoyed every moment of Detroiters more than ITYSL even at it’s best.

I love you . . .

The one that stayed off my radar as a cover the longest. To be fair, I was a tyke when the cover came out and I never listened to Dionne Warwick . . . MoF, for the longest I had irrational grudge against her for ‘turning Stevie Wonder soft’ because I loved his shit from the 70s and HATED his ‘That’s What Friends Are

It’s inference, but the assumption is she dialed a random number that was not in service [you could hear the canned network message ‘your call cannot be completed as dialed]. First, I don’t think that message comes up for ‘blocked’ numbers, and second, Kendall calls Nate immediately thereafter, and it would be

  • Opening with “Something In The Way” by Nirvana marks yet another perfect soundtrack choice. Who better to express the weariness of the down-bad than Kurt Cobain?

Ted’s speech was a Sudeikis thing.  A chance to reference his feelings on the Bronco’s Elway retirement party SBs and to reference the Price Chopper 7-layer dip.

America is BIG. And in the Midwest a lot of it is flat. And obviously, that wasn’t shot on a soundstage. There are a non-zero number of residences that appear, if you frame it right, ‘in the middle of nowhere.’ But there’s also probably a paved road within a couple hundred yards, leading to a main thoroughfare a
