Why ask for just one when I’ve already given you three???

It’s very doable. The fact is, in the corporate world, there is a lot of bullshit time wasting that if trimmed could get most people down below 40 hours of actual work a week

California is very unique in its employee rights.  Most states just say 40 hours is the cap before OT.

I mean if we are talking about unique hard jobs with weird shifts,  we can also take fire fighter.  Who, in most places, are working three 24 hour shifts a week and then getting four days off.  Sure in theory a lot of that is being “on call” but its still a hard as hell job and on a pay shift they could be running

Right and when nurses are fatigued they may miss the fact the meds they are giving their patient is not what the doctor prescribed, but the pharmacist filled, or was mis-prescribed by the doctor. The fact is an RN MUST catch these errors for the patient’s sake and if the RN doesn’t it is the RN’s fault.

I’m not a nurse, but I do work in healthcare and went to a 3x12 Fri-Sun (work 36 get paid for 40) schedule earlier this year. Let me tell you- yes, it can be done. Do I question my choices around hour 9 on Sunday? Not infrequently. It’s been my observation that people tend to select “alternative” schedules for a

What part of this society implies that anything in the work world should be reasonable or humane?

I worked in a state where OT didn’t kick in until after 40 - and I’m STILL surprised. In the 5 or years I was doing it, it was a rare occurrence to have to work both opening and closing shifts. A little more common but still to be avoided was working the opening shift the day after doing a closing shift.

Nurse also generally have a more difficult job and they just cant up and leave a patient without informing an oncoming nurse or another nurse about a patient.

Fuck Baylor health. But on that subject I have worked 3-12s my whole career. As a RN, I have never had a problem with productivity. I have also worked two-16s without an issue.

Right, the nurses keep them from killing people.

the nurses are actively working their 12 hr shifts and there is a movement to ditch the torture shifts fro residents and allow proper sleep. Cat naps do not support good learning and decisions

It’ll also be a ‘resident’.. Usually as dumb with a full nights sleep or none at all.

Why are so many people on a restaurant/food site surprised about 13-14 hour shifts? Have you people ever worked in a restaurant? That’s a daily occurrence in lots of places

You definitely have been.

I am married to an overworked underpaid nurse she does like the extra non-work days.

If you have been in a hospital, you have been treated by one. Most nurses work three 12s a week and much prefer it. More days off or they can pick up a 4th day occasionally, get OT, and still have 3 days off.

First thought was “Yeah, they then won’t have to provide health insurance since they would be under 30 hours” but damn, a 13-14 hour shift? You can see how some states are more protective of workers than others. CFL saw no cost difference in FL because OT doesn’t kick in until 40 hours are worked. In CA OT kicks in

Very true and odd are if you go to a hospital you will be. The resident seeing you is probably on hour 23 of his 4th 24hr shift that week.
