Our 2015 Mini Cooper regularly averages 38-40 in mixed driving & that includes cold midwest winters. I’ll bet just the opposite and say that most of them will beat their rated mpg.

I’d recommend the Mazda CX-5 here. The brand is notoriously reliable, there is a decent amount of room for youths and things and they can be had in all wheel drive for bad weather situations.
