Not exactly. It makes objects slower in the middle of the screen, but objects near the sides zoom by at alarming speed.

It's just an illusion. I blame it on the over-usage of gopros and wide angle lenses. It's very hard to judge speed in first-person view with this kind of camera setup. Most people who use gopros don't bother to fix the wide angle distortion in post-processing.
