What a time to buy a diskless NAS server that I'm dying to set up. I know production is expected to normalise around late next year, but I hope that prices stabilise sooner. I was really looking forward to a nice weekend project before I saw the news :(

I think the handset looks great! It's a nice way to stand out among the mostly unmemorable rectangular black slabs. And the black N800 looks far from a "childlike bit of plastic".

It does suck. That being said, after using a Nexus One with 200 MB of internal memory (yes, I added an SD card, but you really can't install most apps on it), 8GB feels like manna from heaven :)

Specs wise, it's kind of like the Samsung Omnia W other than the storage (16 vs 8). Since the Omnia W is priced at around $400 in India, Nokia would have to be on par, give or take 10%, to win me over.

I hope Amazon doesn't lock it down though. That would really extinguish the Fire's appeal for me.

Lovely story. We usually rave a great deal about the misuse of technology (e.g. the London riots), so it's heartening to be reminded of some of its more wonderful applications as well.
