During the years that people said HBO didn't know what it was doing for not unbundling like this they made money hand over fist in spite of all the piracy because of cable subsidies that would have been endangered. Here they likely got a big fat check from Apple while they essentially beta test the platform. In both

No, any PC capable of running a browser. It isn't going to be a Mac App, just a web app and you can't limit web apps by platform.

OK, for you it wouldn't be a good deal, but whatever the cable company tells you the price is, they are paying at least $20 a month to HBO. It's those out there whining that it costs more than Netflix that don't understand how expensive HBO is already.

Well it was just a throw-in service until just now. The only people who rely on it solely are the ones who aren't actually paying HBO for it.

Not all TVs, I was fully prepared to ignore the Smart functions on my new Sony TV, but I tried it out out of curiosity given that it uses an ARM processor rather than the power-hungry Cell in the PS3, and I was impressed that the apps were largely identical and already getting updates. I think it helps that Sony has

Zuckerberg and Oculus are working on it.

Well that Elantra no doubt has a clock and a touch screen on its dash, plus the functionality of a car so it's definitely got more going for it in the swiss-army knife proposition department.

Oddly these people apparently make up the entire demographic that Conde Nast targets with Wired magazine. Seriously, like every print ad in every edition is for Omega, Tag, Heur, etc. I get that to a degree Wired has an obsession with the high-end consumerist side of technology, but some people like me just want to

To pick a nit, Citizenfour was not made by HBO Documentary Films, merely aired by them. Also, per the press release HBONow will be useable on PC from launch day.

Impervious no, but their business model isn't based around knowing and storing as much about you as possible, their security isn't perfect but it's leaps and bounds better than their competition. And Foxconn is a Taiwanese company that operates factories in China, but Lenovo (Moto's new owner) and the new rising

In China, by a foreign-owned company.

Actually you don't, cable companies subsidize the subscription costs to HBO per user, that's why HBO has been so reluctant to bring a product like this to market, it was better for them to put up with piracy than jeopardize their monetary relationships with cable companies.

I never found a need for a set top box between the ability to plug a computer in and access anything or utilize the duplicated capability on a game console/tv with a better living room interface. The one cool feature Roku has is wifi-direct audio streaming for using headphones wirelessly without the awful limitations

Do you also own a laptop? Because it's available on PC at launch too.

It's an exclusivity window, each one gets a boost financially and then it'll go wider, big deal. It probably wasn't the best move to do it during the only window of time when a certain portion of people would subscribe but though. Then again people don't seem to notice that it'll be available to anyone smart enough to

I'm fairly sure that HBOGo is not run off of MLB Advanced Media tech whereas this will be, and MLB.tv has had glowing reviews as far as I've seen.

It's so they can further convince people to buy phones that are far too cumbersome to be bothered with when it comes to checking incoming notifications now buy two products for at least $1,000 where the more appropriately sized single $600 device used to fit your needs.

I'll take hyper control over being completely data-mined for profit & intelligence-sharing or buying products from companies that largely belong to the Chinese government.

Because Apple is the most valuable public company on the planet and could basically buy Disney for cash? And neither would benefit all that much from the ownership of the other, in the few areas their interests do coincide they do what make more sense for both parties, licensing/service fees.
