50 Shades is a crap book. But I think it is responsible for a lot of women either discovering or re-discovering erotica, and then discovering BDSM erotica, and perhaps spicing up their sex lives, which can only be a good thing. It seems like erotica — especially in ebook form — is doing booming business these days.

And moms shouldn't be interested in sex? Moms who are interested in sex are embarrassing or pitiable?

This is what I remember, that there were so many different styles and so many different categories we fell into. My teens and their friends, both male and female, all seem to wear more or less the same stuff. The girls especially; I don't see the same kind of creativity and range in their clothing that we had back

That's too bad! I live in Dansko. I wear my Dansko sandals all summer, and my 'Professional' clogs the rest of the year.

Dansko clogs. Those fit perfectly and aren't painful. When I have to wear heels once or twice a year I can hardly stand it.

I have always been a 7, even through two pregnancies. I suppose it could be because I never really had a third trimester the first time, and not much of one the second time, and third trimester is when you get big. Who knows, I just know your feet won't always grow with pregnancy.

Red Is Best is one of my favorite books! (Because I, too, believe that red is best. Duh.). As for the sippy cup, the parent should ask, "would you like the pink one or the blue one?" sometimes, and let the kid choose. But if it's already been poured, it's not cool to dirty another cup just so the kid won't throw a

I love her books as well, especially Not Quite a Husband. She wrote a fantasy YA novel called the Burning Sky which was also very good.

That's two people who have taken offense, and quite out of proportion. Since "racism" against white people is hardly a thing, but racism against black people is a real problem (read about what Anthony of Opie & Anthony said on twitter about an encounter he had with a black woman), so why not save your outrage for

I second the reccos for Jennifer Crusie and Susan Elizabeth Philips. I'd add Sherry Thomas's "Not Quite a Husband."

I'm white, and I've got no problems with what she said. I know what she means, and take no offense. She's got no 'consequences' from me, that's for sure. Go be silly and uptight somewhere else.

I'm white and I don't have a problem with this. I think it's kind of funny, actually. It's too bad she was forced to resign; it sounds like she was shaking things up, and that being shaken up is what this school needs.

It's interesting how you didn't respond to most of what I said. It's a little bewildering that you somehow came to the conclusion that I don't realize how far we still need to go in terms of women's rights. Believe me, I know, and it's depressing, enraging, and galvanizing.

It's not a myth, apparently. Ellenjane is a real, live, man-hating feminist. I'd never encountered a real example of one before this discussion.

It's not hard to hear, honey. You're pretty amusing, actually.

I am disagreeing with you, by saying there aren't enough of them to be yelling loud enough to drown out the rest of us.

Well, that's a matter of opinion, and I think it's interesting that it's yours. I've been reading Jezebel for years, and don't remember ever encountering female commenters here who say men can't be feminists. As I said, in real life, I don't know a single woman who would say that. It seems to be a fairly small

Yeah, wow. I don't agree with her either. You don't have to leave, honey.

My teenage sons are feminists. I noticed today that the 13 year old just posted a link to a witty thing about feminism from College Humor on his Facebook page. They get it. They — and their father — are feminists because they are decent human beings. I mean, if you think women don't deserve the same rights,

Oh, pshaw. I'm a feminist, went to a school that was full of feminists, most of the people I'm related to or are friends with are feminists, and I have never met a single feminist who hates men. I know they're out there, but there aren't many.
