That makes a lot of sense to explain individual interest - and to be clear, I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with any one person having an interest in the case, but the fawning media coverage is a little gross to me.

This is a good theory. I think there’s a confluence of factors that led to the fascination with this case; unfortunately, most of them don’t speak too kindly about human nature.

Why do people still obsess over this case? How many non-rich, non-white girls have been murdered in the 20 years since, and where are their TV specials? I’m very interested in true crime stories, but this one has just always made me feel very, very icky.
