Aronofsky is a poor choice IMHO. Jimmy Corrigan needs a director with sparse, minimalist sensibilities. Van Sant maybe? Sam Mendes would capture the ennui well. David Gordon Green would get the tragedy/comedy mix.
I also work in a rainbow suburb and can confirm that 'Vampyros Lesbos' and 'Daughters of Darkness' are very popular, though not only with lesbians.
