I understand that when you're in college or just starting out, a credit card can be tempting and potentially dangerous in that it easily enables spending above your means ... but once you have steady income it really can be a great asset. We use a credit card for pretty much all purchases, pay it off in full every month, so no interest, and get a few free flights a year in the process. Credit cards can be a very useful tool (they're also better against fraud), just takes some self-discipline to use them properly.

We have ~ 6 months of expenses in a savings account, if my wife & I didn't have any income. If just one of us lost our job, could stretch it quite a bit more, as one income could cover basic living expenses and loan payments.

That's fine as long as they keep making the cheap streaming-only ones ... for me it augments cable, not replacing it, so I don't want to spend more than $100, and $50 is ideal.
