I hear ya Murray. I don't think I had even heard of Scientology until after I read those books. BE is such a bloated affair, it would have been better with some judicious editing. If that had happened BE could have been a fine piece of pulp Sci fi.

In no way, shape or form is Battlefield Earth a great book. I would argue is is hackery of the highest (or lowest, depending on one's perspective) order, though. Can't believe I actually read it and the Mission Earth 10 book set in high school. My standards have since greatly improved.

I re-read it recently. It was a lot better than I remembered from the 1st time. I still like Ghost world better though. Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron is one I really didn't like. It was all over the map

I saw it opening weekend, decent size crowd. Laugh my ass off, and practically stood up and cheered when Dude said "I hate the fucking Eagles, man!" Agree 100%
