I didn’t realize that there was a package of white privilege that Asians and white women should also be entitled to that includes shooting black people without consequence. This sacrifice language is problematic.
Hard to prove malice in a case like this. I’d rather take what we can get.
Honestly, much better chance of the charges sticking. Murder you have to prove intent to murder. With manslaughter you don’t have to do that. Charge her with murder and she probably walks away. With manslaughter there is a much better chance of her serving time.
They really need to start administering a courage test before you get your gun and/or badge. If the site of a black man scares you that much, you’re unfit to serve in any public capacity.
So to review:
Yes, as Shakespeare famously said, the book is mightier than the semi-automatic pistol.
I read from Shaun King that convicting a cop of murder is basically impossible. Manslaughter has a much higher probability of a conviction.
Shaun King posted on Facebook:
You know what they say: guns don’t kill people, books kill people.
Betty Shelby is nothing but a low-life thug. Look at her record! She smokes marijuana and has been cited for domestic violence. Was only a matter of time when something like this would happen. Get her off the streets!
Sad answer: Probably, yes.
He did something weird that was non- threatening. So I shot him.
Shelby’s attorney revealed that she thought it was “strange” that Crutcher put his hands in the air without being instructed to do so.
So she didn’t just shoot him despite the fact that his hands were up. She shot him BECAUSE he put up his hands?
Way easier conviction.
Good.
Hopefully this is one of those rare times where Justice will ACTUALLY be done. Hoping, and praying, that is the case.
She thought it was strange that he put his hands up without her asking? Gee Betty, do you think it was maybe because he was actively trying not to get shot by an overreacting cop?
