Those hats, though.

"She's currently neck and neck with her opponent, Democrat Bruce Braley, and a strong stance on an incredibly important women's issue could be what pulls her ahead."
Mind blown. You know you can go to her site and see her platform, yes? That she believes we're being taken over by the U.N.? That she would ban ALL abortions, ever, always? That she co-sponsored the Personhood Bill here in Iowa (which essentially strips any pregnant woman of any rights the second she is pregnant,…
Yes, priveleged. Raised by a single Mom who was an immigrant from Romania and worked as a secretary. Just like Paris Hilton!
1940s. I've never seen it, I just know those clothes are 40s. It's what I do.
Huh. I've had several pairs of those slippers (vintage, 1960s) in my boutique over the years. Red/white were the cutest.
For a fascinating look into fashion of the first half of the last century I highly recommend the works of designer Elizabeth Hawes. Vassar educated, a brilliant woman with a keen eye….a friend to Jean Cocteau and Alexander Calder, rival to Chanel and Schiaparelli. Her experience in the industry in Paris as she started…
Clearly the commenters here are confused as to why Mr. Nye engaged. He sees a school district teering on the edge of allowing Creationism being taught in the schools. Honestly, if you haven't watched it at all then pipe down. He makes it quite clear that his concern is for children who will be influenced by this…
This is why women wore sachet jewelry…lockets or charms of openwork metal with a ball or pad of wool or cotton inside, scented with a fragrant oil.
I find that Mad Men poster disturbing not because of the nude, faceless manni but the fact that there were no mannequins in the 1960s shaped like that. The torso, face, shoulders…the hands….all wrong. 196os mannequins had rounded backs, almost hunched at the shoulders and very tiny waists (they also came apart at the…
This was my immediate thought. Fantastic music? Gorgeous costumes? Gene goddamn Kelly? Not even a mention??
small child loves the 80s, insisted on Cyndi Lauper.
Ooooh. A tremendous piece of fashion history/American film.....I would not kill, but perhaps pinch someone super hard for this. Or scratch them. Maybe a black eye.
Can't post on Mary Lou Lord's blog, but I can say...I personally have been on the receiving end of Courtney Love's wrath, and it's not a good time. Good for her for standing up to that psychopath.
Just watched "the Great Zeigfeld" the other day! Much Sandow early on in the film.
I've wondered too, and the afraid of heights things made me wonder even more....I have a CH cat (cerebellar hypoplasia) that wobbles when he walks and can get up and down on low furniture but hates being picked up very high. He's as awesome as Tardar/Grumpy. I am in full support of the love and awesomeness that is a…
Local trend-whore restaurant in DSM Ia, "Zombie Burger" has a new sandwich....the Miami, an open face meatloaf sandwich. Classy.
Only the female cicada killer can sting, the male's "stinger" is just for show. The stingers are large (as are they) because they literally live for hunting and killing cicadas, which are pretty large themselves. I've heard they're pretty mellow, but the look of them alone scares me into avoiding them.
Robin Sparkles called, she wants her schtick back.
