It’s a fair point, although the counter-point might be that Turner is only one case, and another might be that the magnitude of public outrage and media visibility on it is much much greater today than it would have likely been in ‘99.

I don’t envy her having to reconcile all her feelings as a rape victim herself with the current role in this film, and the accusations against Parker. But she is so right, and I greatly admire her courage for speaking out about this situation.

The owners of those unused properties are losing money then. They are just betting that the price they’ll fetch for the property in the future will be better, so they are taking a loss right now. But that is a bet, a big part of that bet is based on no new construction and still increasing demand.

If buildings go unoccupied because they can’t be let at the price being asked, and rents will absolutely go down. That happens if you have enough supply. Rents never went down because there has been a huge influx of people and no new construction.
