I really think what he should have done is offered the couple a rescheduled night and a bottle of wine for any guests he felt were inconvenienced.

To me it doesn't make a difference and it shouldn't be some sort of income level disparity in who gets to enjoy their dinner uninterrupted.

I always get this weird embarrassment sadness when other countries with amazing healthcare pity post about things like this in the US.

I have noticed that. We went to Bloomington for a concert a while back and I was all "OMG it's in Indiana?!" but was amazed and embarrassed about my stereotypes.
