I just mentioned it in the albums thread. That's awesome you're seeing her soon. Why it didn't seem to get more critical acclaim than it did, I really don't know. How do songs get better than 'Head Underwater' or 'Late Bloomer'?

I think Heijira was the best received of their collaborations, and I tend to agree. It's a beautiful album.

American Baptist Churches USA is actually considered mainline, at least according to the Pew Forum's classification. Two other 'historically black', and two other Evangelical. But I'm guessing it may be the smallest.

Chain-smoking for a half-century will do that to you. Still sounds great, though. If you haven't heard it, check out Herbie Hancock's Gershwin's World on which she sings a couple of standards. She's a very fine interpreter.
